Meet heroal

A family business for over 150 years

Johann Henkenjohann was the third-generation owner of the wooden shoe shop, founded in 1874, when the destroyed cities were being constructed after the end of the Second World War. He recognised the demand for flexible, space-saving blackout solutions that were virtually invisible from the outside, and so turned his attention to the production of roller shutters in 1950.

The invention of the first foam-filled aluminium roller shutter slat in 1969 revolutionised the roller shutter market. The name heroal (Henkenjohann roll-forms aluminium) was coined as part of this new production process. The birth of heroal. From then on, heroal developed into a technology leader in aluminium processing in the fields of roller shutters, sun protection and roller doors, as well as windows, doors and curtain walls.

The heroal VS Z corner solution is a sun protection system designed specifically for modern all-glass corners. This innovative, zip-guided solution provides a connection between effective sun protection and a clean, architecturally integrated design. Winner of the ‘Excellent Product Design’ award, the system impresses with its elegant design, even in challenging architectural settings. The individually controllable fabric screens allow for flexible adaptation to varying light and shade requirements, highlighting the system’s functional versatility.

R+T Innovation Award – Silver

The heroal VS Z corner solution is a fabric sun protection system designed specifically for complex all-glass corners. This zip-guided solution combines innovative technology with a clean, functional design. Winner of the R+T Innovation Award in silver, the system is based on two fabric screens controlled via a patented stainless steel cable guide. This enables effective sun protection even in complex architectural settings. As the screens are guided through separate end strips, they can be operated independently of one another and flexibly adjusted to the position of the sun.

Architecture and Building Trade Innovation Award

The D 72 PF EM door casement profile is awarded to a front door system that sets new standards thanks to its well-thought-out construction and high-quality workmanship. The jury particularly commends the optimised manufacturing processes. Faster and simpler panel installation, made possible by an innovative clip system, eliminates the need for additional seals and ensures a significantly more efficient installation process. Thanks to the improved construction, labour costs and material usage can be reduced. At the same time, production lead times are significantly shortened – an advantage that is reflected in the precise, economical and reliable implementation of modern door solutions.
